Adult Sunday School

 
The First United Methodist Church offers many adult Sunday school classes
in its adult ministries. All classes welcome newcomers to the church as well as those
looking for a class for the first time.
 
Backslider Sunday School Class
Although the study in this class is geared toward median age group - 40s and 50s - all ages are welcome.  Facilitator for this class is Jim Apple.
Location:  Downstairs in Room B-4.

The L.O.V.E. (Learning-Oneness-Virtue-Evangelism) Sunday School Class consists of couples and singles in their 20(s) 30(s) & 40(s). The teachers are Janis & Frank Giaimo who teach from Bible Study materials that are directed toward young adults who want to participate in and helpstructure their own discoveries in life, in relationships, and in faith. In these studies we have the opportunity to use our own experience in life and in faith to examine the biblical text in new ways. We examine biblical images that shape all of our lives. We are a continuously growing group, who meet in a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We would LOVE to have you come join us.
Location: Room 112 

Hope Class is a scripture/open discussion based class. Lead by Duff Zimmerman and Cathy Manis, has a variety of single and married couples in their 30's and 40's.  Please join the class for a fun and insightful look at great values and principles to live by. 
Location: Balcony Room 211

Friends in Faith is open to everyone (no defined age group).  Members are enjoying an open forum for Christian conversation. This class is currently working with a variety of material.
From Rob Bell's "Nooma" video series to "Faith Link" (a Christian approach to discussing current events).
 
We are currently working on Kalas' "Parables from the Back Side".
Presently this class is faciliated by Wolfgang Roeder.

New Horizons is a class of about eight members taught by Vince Maddox. This class mostly consists of in-depth study a book or part of a book of the Bible. We sometimes study books about characters in the Bible or life guidance topics. We use commentaries, sermons, and personal observations and interpretations. It is a class of knowledgeable people who enjoy  building their faith by developing a useful understanding of Biblical teachings.

Seekers Class consists of all age groups, singles and married couples and welcomes all who
want to join them. The class is taught by Jean Kelly, This is an interactive class with discussion on material.
Location: Chapel (near side Lauderdale entrance)
 
Questers Class, lead by teacher Marshall Brown, studies the Bible and other inspirational literature in the pursuit of wisdom and our reason for being. Current events, depicting "Religion in Action", are open items for discussion. The Questers invite young adults through middle age to join us.
Location: Balcony Room 213 (back of room 212)

Crusaders consists of some 20 mostly senior members, including couples and singles. 
The class uses the Adult Bible Studies series from Cokesbury. Teachers Esther Sims, Wilson Murphy and Bro. Bill Starnes rotate each week.
Location: FAC Building
 
Moore Memorial Class has approximately 20 members, mostly mature women.  The Adult Bible Studies series is taught by Dewitt Cox. There is an emphasis on the  shut-in members of the group.
Location: Room 111 Moore Memorial Room (off sanctuary)
 
Venturers is a class of about 7 members ages 45-75.  Teacher is Frank Steinle.
Location: In Conference Room in main building - off of Sanctuary.
 
Strangely Warmed Class - Everyone has felt warm, but strangely warm?   The answer is found in this class. Lex Hutcheson, teacher, and the 20 other members have matured together over the years, but always welcome new members.  The lesson format is Bible Study with commentary and discussion.

The Evans Friendship SS Class   has been responsible for nurturing, inspiring, and teaching the Word of God since some time in the 1980"s.  Prior to this time, there were two classes:  1) The Friendship Class which met in the northeast corner room of the current Reception Area.  2) The Evans Fellowship Class which met in the basement room currently used by the  instrumentalists for practice.  The classes have been lead by many dedicated Christians, including clerical and laity.  The Evans Friendship Class uses The Adult Bible Studies for weekly study and is capably led by Mrs. Vanessa Jackson.  The class is located next to the stairway, just off the Sanctuary.
